Kibble Egg Hunt

This morning, we had a little Easter egg hunt for Cabana. We put pieces of kibble inside some plastic eggs and "hid" them in the backyard. It was sprinkling a bit and rather chilly--not very Easter-like weather!

cabana spies an orange egg amidst the nasturtiums, her head is down low as she noses the eggAt first, Cabana wasn't quite sure how to play the game.

the top of cabana's head as she eats the piece of kibble, one half of the orange egg on either side of her head, the cement patio is dotted wet with raindropsWe opened the first egg for her, so she would understand there was a piece of kibble inside.

cabana spies a pink egg in front of the foxglovesAfter the first egg, Cabana got the hang of it pretty quickly.

the underside of cabana's head, with two pink egg halves open toward the camera, a piece of kibble is visible inside one of the halvesShe learned that if she picked up the egg and then dropped it a couple times on the cement, the eggs opened easily. But she sometimes had trouble getting the piece of kibble out of the egg half.

The kibbles are all gone, so I'll chew on these eggs. Mmmm, nom nom.

sideview of cabana, as she looks up questioningly, lots of egg halves are scattered all oer the cement patio
That plastic doesn't taste so great. Are there any more kibble eggs to find?

cabana in the same position as above but one eyebrow is raised and she's looking a bit sideways, so that she looks dubious
What?! No more for a WHOLE YEAR? Surely you jest.

cabana in the same pose again but her face is wrinkled up and her jowl is partially stuck in her mouth, she looks like she looks worried and quite funny
No jest? Rats.

cabana turning to walk away, one paw is in motion and lifted in the air
Well, okay, then let's go inside. I'm not standing in this rain like a goofball for nuthin!

How cute!!! Great idea, only Sammie would try to eat the plastic eggs!!! Cabana looks cool surrounded by all those broken eggs - good for her to figure that out! Hope to see you soon!

What a great egg hunt! It's too bad about the weather, our warm weather is incredible for this time of year. I've never seen such a warm and sunny Easter! But, we're not complaining. Hope it comes your way soon.

That's a great idea- I bet it was lots of fun watching Cabana figuring out how to hunt for eggs. This morning, my brother was telling me to do an egg hunt with Don, but I didn't think he'd be able to figure it out. But, I guess it isn't as hard for the dogs as I thought. Cabana looks like she's a champ at Easter egg hunting- she's so cute standing next to all those plastic easter eggs.

Hopefully it'll clear up soon- it's never to late for an Easter egg hunt ;)

Looks like Cabana had lots of fun! Betsy wishes I would have let her hunt eggs too! She found a couple of the ones the Easter Bunny left for my little brother. She pranced around with them until someone took them away.
Sorry to hear you had a rainy Easter! We had a little snow this morning but now its 65 and sunny:)

Oh, Cabana you have the life! How fun - sorry about the rainy weather (could be worse ... we still have snow). Happy Easter!

So cute!! We did that with the CC'd dogs last year at Easter, but not in the rain this year. Poor Accord, Lester and Granger had to hang in the house with Dagan. Rough life.
