Last week, my daughters, Cabana, and I went to visit our dear friend, Peg. Back when my daughters were babies, we lived a couple blocks away from each other, and Peg would watch the girls for a couple hours each day, out of the goodness of her heart! She loved children and wanted a baby fix--and I, as a young mother, was extremely grateful to have a little time to myself, even if it was to clean house or go to the grocery without babies in tow. Needless to say, Peg was a godsend and has a special place in our hearts.
Now, Peg lives about 30 minutes away, with Kenzie, this 12-year-old Golden Retriever that has "adopted" her. Kenzie really belongs to her landlady, but a few years ago, Peg started to take care of Kenzie, like she used to take care of my girls. And now, Kenzie prefers Peg to her actual owner.
Kenzie has major hip problems, is quite overweight, and can barely walk. Cabana and Kenzie have met before, though Kenzie has made it plain that Cabana is much too young to be bothered with. So Cabana keeps her distance--she's very respectful toward her elders!
Recently, Peg brought Timmy home, a foster dog through Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue. Although it's possible that someone may choose to adopt Timmy, the chances are slim since he's the same age (and weight) as Kenzie. He also has lots of allergies, which make him prone to hot spots and other skin problems. But he still has quite a bit of spunk and wanted to play with Cabana, even though he can barely walk.

We tried to get a photo of all three dogs. I knew the shadows weren't going to make a good photo, but it was hard to get the Goldens moving, much less in the right spot. I found this photo hilarious because Cabana, already quite the whippersnapper, looks even more so with her eyes squeezed shut. We tried to get her to lie down in between the two Goldens, but she absolutely refused. She wouldn't even do it for a treat. She instinctively knew they didn't want her to be that close to them--she was much smarter about it than me, and I was impressed with her intelligent disobedience. At least, I'm hoping that's what it was!!
