A Little Q & A Giveaway

old and faded photo of my mom and dad in back row, my sister wearing glasses in the front, and me, barely tall enough to make it into the photoToday is my birthday, bringing me to the ripe age of 46. Here's a photo of my family when I was about 2-3 years old (before my brother was born). I'm the short one. That hasn't changed much, since now my daughters are both much taller than me, so I'm the shortest again.

Today, I could have stayed home, worked and done laundry, but since it was my birthday, I asked myself, "Self, what you you REALLY like to do?" Throughout the day, I've asked myself several more questions of the same genre.

I decided it would be fun to pose these questions to my readers and see what your thoughts are. I will give you my answers in a post tomorrow.

And since birthdays are for giving and receiving gifts, one random responder will win a prize! You can choose from the following: a Guide Dogs 2011 calendar (featuring Cabana on the May page), a custom-made dog collar, or one item from my Sheekoo store, max value $30 (although it's a bit embarrassing because I haven't updated my Sheekoo site in quite a long time--but the winner and I will work something out). I look forward to hearing your answers!

1. If you could have done anything you wanted today (or tomorrow, since tomorrow is Saturday, and that might make a difference in your response), what would you choose to do?

2. If you could spend the day with anyone you wanted, who would you spend it with?

3. If your mother-in-law sent you $100, what would you spend it on?

4. If you went to the food court at the mall, what would you choose to eat for lunch?

5. If you could pick any restaurant for your birthday dinner, which restaurant would you choose?

6. If you could have any kind of birthday cake, what kind would you prefer?

Katrin  – (October 1, 2010 at 5:01 PM)

1. I would have walked down to the swing set at the local elementary school and swung on the swings.

2. Just who I spent it with- my dogs.

3. Well I don't have a mother-in-law but if someone gave me $100 right now and I wasn't spending it on college loans but on something "fun" I would spend it on another session of Noseworks classes with James.

4. The only thing I eat at a mall food court- Auntie Annie's cinnamon sugar pretzel

5. Mai Pearl and have tea pot soup and mango chicken & shrimp

6. Not a cake, but a raspberry tort

Happy Birthday to you!!

Shelly :)  – (October 1, 2010 at 5:44 PM)

Happy Birthday!! :)

1. I would have start off the day by sleeping in. I would of gone on a walk and came back and had a big breakfast with waffles and strawberries. After that I probably would have headed to the mall to do some window shopping.

2. My husband

3. A massage or facial

4. I don't remember the last time I've been to a food court at a mall! :) Maybe a pretzel with cheese?

5. Hanks (even though it's in Las Vegas and I'm in Seattle) :)

6. Pink Champagne Cake

Becky Andrews  – (October 1, 2010 at 6:13 PM)

How fun! First of all, Happy, happy Birthday! Hope you are having a wonderful day. My 46 is coming!

1. If I can get caught up tonight, tomorrow will be a day like I want. Yoga in the morning, a run, then a nice long bike ride with Steve, girls night out for laughing and a yummy dessert.

2. Steve and my kids.

3. Ann Taylor outfit - my favorite go to.

4. Diet coke and a pretzel - would stand there in a dilemma should i get the cinnamon flavor or cheese dip.

5. Sego Lily outside seating. However, for my birthday it is cold and wintery so I hope to be somewhere warm.

6. White cake, white frosting, raspberry filling.

Hope you have a great day. You know I love my purse and your items are beautiful.

Cassie & The Dogs  – (October 1, 2010 at 6:27 PM)

Happy Happy Birthday!! I was hoping you would be at the meeting on Tuesday, because I had birthday cake. Dagan was sharing "his" cake with the close birthdays. I also had your water bottle! Tonight, I will eat left over cake in your honor ;)

1. Today, I would have grabbed my friend and her CCI pup and taken off for the beach. Tomorrow, because we have plans that do not allow me to do what I really want to do, I would go see our friend's band play an acoustic set at The Beach Chalet in SF. Normally, he plays bars, which means finding a sitter for Dag or me staying home while John goes to have fun.

2. I'm going morbid and saying a dear friend who passed away 7 years ago (cystic fibrosis). Her birthday would have been last week and she has been on my heart lots recently. I would give anything for another day with her.

3. Guilt free pedicure - the good one with parafin wax and massage! Then, something crafty to make (since Michael's is close to the nail salon that likes Dagan)

4. Ideally, it would be a couple years ago when the local mall still had the Mongolian BBQ place. I could totally go for that right now!

5. Oh! Hard! I waiver between a favorite (Mi Pueblo or Lily Kai) or something new and different - There is an Indian restaurant a friend has been talking about. And a Thai place...

6. Just what we got for the meeting/party! White cake with a light yummy frosting. Is is bad that I love Safeway cake?? It is way yummy!

There are my overly-wordy answers :)

We hope you had a fabulous Birthday! Dagan sends many tail wags your way!

Lisa and pups  – (October 1, 2010 at 6:27 PM)

WOW, neat idea!

1. I would have spent it with my closest friends (& dogs since they are all dog lovers) not particularly doing anything but just having fun enjoying each others company.

2. Adam

3. I don't have a mother-in-law, but if someone gave me $100 I'd put it towards the new water heater I need.

4. Hm... haven't been to a food court in awhile. Not even actually sure what's there, but I'd hope Mr. Goodcents was there - love that place!

5. WOW, that's a hard one. I'd probably pick this really nice French restaurant nearby. It's quaint, but they have some amazing dishes that just make your mouth water like no bodies business... and it's not heavy foods so you don't leave feeling bloated.

6. Ice Cream Cake - from DQ

Emma Rose  – (October 1, 2010 at 6:46 PM)

Happy Birthday to you!!!
Let's see - what would my answers be....

1. Play outside in the sunshine.

2. My Duke and Duchess.

3. I don't have a MIL but if I had money I would buy bones and cookies!

4. Ice Cream :)

5. I am not allowed in a restaurant, sadly.

6. Peanut Butter and Chocolate!

Beth and Alfie  – (October 1, 2010 at 7:24 PM)

Happy happy birthday to you!! You deserve a fabulous day. :-) Hmm, now these Q's are going to make me think...
1-I think I would do what I DID do, which is...go on a very very long, outdoorsy walk with my buddy Alf. Only, it would've been longer, and I wouldn't have had to mix the day or the walk with any work! :-D
2- My husband...love him!!
3-Woo hoo, $100? Currently I'm in the market for some walking shoes...and with my bent toward bargain shopping, I'd probably squeeze something fun and impractical out of that $100 too. I don't know...jewelry?
4-Greek food. It just sounds good right now. Although that eatery may have closed, come to think of it...are you fact checking? ;-)
5-Casa Garcia's, which is my favorite Mexican food b/c they have HOT yummy salsa.
6-Chocolate...chocolate...need I say more?

Lauren, Spike and Clyde  – (October 1, 2010 at 8:34 PM)

How fun! Happy birthday!

1. I would have gone to the Clark Planetarium for one of their laser shows!
2. My friend, Kristen. Her birthday was on the 29th :)
3. I don't have a mother-in-law, but if someone gave me $100, I would probably end up spending it on art supplies.. Prisma colored pencils are expensive!
4. I would definitely get Subway.
5. Cafe Rio! Best chicken salad EVER.
6. Ice cream cake with chocolate cake and mint chocolate chip ice cream. yum..

L^2  – (October 1, 2010 at 8:58 PM)

Happy Birthday!!! I hope you had a fantastic day.

1. Today was a beautiful day here, so if I could have, I would have taken a dog with me on a nice long walk.

2. any of my "favorite people" (good friends and loved ones) who I don't get to see often because they live far away

3. I don't have a MIL, but if I was given $100, I'd have to use at least part of it to replace my microwave oven that died earlier this week.

4. I can't remember the name of it, but there used to be this bakery in the mall food court that made the BEST giant cookies. I'm always up for cookies, even as lunch. :-)

5. Well, for my birthday last week, I chose Gambino's for pizza, but it was a toss up between that and the Mexican place (El Puero), because I love them both.

6. dark chocolate cake with purple frosting.

Golden Samantha  – (October 1, 2010 at 9:19 PM)

Happy Birthday, Mimi! Here are some suggestions! (But some are a little far away...)
1. You would definitely choose to have a spa bath with me, Cabana, in or near the Petaluma River - we could have some Mom 'n me time heheh!
2. Why you'd spend it with me, Cabana and, of course, my pals, Sammie and Avalon.
3. Antlers... more antlers...love em!!!
4. You'd go to Northgate I in Terra Linda, CA and hang out at the new Thai joint - we all love Pad, right!
5. Well... jes tol' ya! That lil place at Northgate I!!!
6. Ohhhhhh... there's no place like Rulli's: here's the link: http://www.rulli.com/larkspur.php
Hugs and Happy Birfday to you xoxoxoox

Maddie, Betsy, Jorinda, and Petuina  – (October 1, 2010 at 9:34 PM)

Happy Birthday! I hope it was great :)

1. While I did have a pretty great day, I would have loved to spend my day driving through the Rocky Mountains with my friends. I would roll the windows down, turn up my music, and enjoy the aspens! :)

2. If I could have spent the day with anyone I would have flown out my friends from Indiana and introduced them to my Colorado friends

3.Hmmm well right now I could really go for some Taco Bell...so probably food. And I might go buy some clothes or put gas in my car.

4. Like I said, Taco Bell sounds great. But they aren't in many food courts, so maybe Panda Express.

5. Red Robin...yumm! :)

6. Cookie Dough Ice Cream Cake!

Raiser Erin  – (October 2, 2010 at 12:24 AM)

1. I would budle up (as I am in Scotland and my birthday is in January) and walk around the city looking at all the old houses and cobble stones streets and end the long walk with hot chocolate.

2. The three people that make me happiest. My boyfriend, my pet dog Arwen, and my GDB pup in training.

3. I don't have a mother-in-law, but if I did and she sent me $100 and said that I wasn't allowed to spend it on school loans or other stuff like that and that it was "fun" money for me...I would get a membership at the school sport centre so I could do yoga whenever I wanted.

5. I'd grab a pot of tea and a scone. (my favourite part about living in the UK is all the tea and biscuits!)

6. If I were still in America I would pick the Vegitarian restaurant. Mmmm...soy sweet and sour chicken.

7. The Raspberry Chocolate Mousse cake from Portos in Burbank or a home made Red Velvet Cake with real cream cheese frosting. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Ro  – (October 2, 2010 at 10:40 AM)

Happy Birthday!!!!

1. If you could have done anything you wanted today (or tomorrow, since tomorrow is Saturday, and that might make a difference in your response), what would you choose to do?

I wish I could take a long walk on a beach with Jayden.

2. If you could spend the day with anyone you wanted, who would you spend it with?

My friend Chupa, who moved away a year ago.

3. If your mother-in-law sent you $100, what would you spend it on?

The duvet cover I found on Amazon that I want for Jayden's comforter, that's $30. Hmmm. That's $70 left. A mani/pedi and a brow wax. That would leave about $30 left. Hmmm. Oh, a book from iTunes and a Cuz for Jayden.

4. If you went to the food court at the mall, what would you choose to eat

Whatever chinese food they have, oh wait, there's a Greek place, too. Hmmm. for lunch?

5. If you could pick any restaurant for your birthday dinner, which restaurant would you choose?

Melting Pot. Hands down.

6. If you could have any kind of birthday cake, what kind would you prefer?

Chocolate. The Black Tie Mousse cake from Olive Garden. Ahhh...

Meghan  – (October 2, 2010 at 2:38 PM)

1. If you could have done anything you wanted today (or tomorrow, since tomorrow is Saturday, and that might make a difference in your response), what would you choose to do?
I would go fishing, go for a picnic and sleep outside tonight.
2. If you could spend the day with anyone you wanted, who would you spend it with?
My dad, doing the above.
3. If your mother-in-law sent you $100, what would you spend it on?
That would really depend on the quality of the mother-in-law. If we had a good relationship, I'd get something that would make me happy, if things were a bit rocky, I'd get something that my husband and I could both enjoy...which could be the same as something that made me happy...
4. If you went to the food court at the mall, what would you choose to eat for lunch?
I think I would have a big milkshake from McDonalds, and then I would get sesame chicken.
5. If you could pick any restaurant for your birthday dinner, which restaurant would you choose?
Possibly Olive Garden, 'cause I adore their Black Tie Mousse Cake.
6. If you could have any kind of birthday cake, what kind would you prefer?
...black tie mousse cake. Or my mom's super super ritch deliciously moist chocolate cake.

Well, it's only 9:30p on the west coast, right? There's still time! :-)

1. Have a nice long training with my dog. He needs one.

2. My friends

3. Don't have a mother-in-law but I would buy clothes with $100!

4. Probably the bourbon chicken meal with pork fried rice and plantains and an egg roll. Mmmm...

5. I chose Olive Garden this year for mine and I'd probably stick with that. Love it! Or maybe Hibachi. We don't really have many specialty restaurants that are good super close.

6. I'm boring. A soft, fluffy vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. No filling! :-)

Anonymous –   – (October 3, 2010 at 8:08 AM)

1. If I could spend a day any way I'd like to, I'd want to sit on my back porch swing with a good book watching Vader play in the yard.

2. Vader and my husband.

3. I need new button up long sleeve shirts, so I'd probably head to The Gap or NY&Co.

4. Chick-fil-A. I love that place!!!

5. We usually head to Benihana for birthday dinners.

6. Chocolate with chocolate icing. I love chocolate!

grace  – (October 3, 2010 at 2:34 PM)
